 Jake Porter, Senior Pastor
Self description:  Way too young for this job.

Wants to be known as:  Someone who treasures Jesus Christ above all.

Being the "senior pastor" means I get to:  Answer all the fun questions at business meetings.  Attempt to keep Rusty, Matt, and Justin on track during staff dinners.

Your life before FBCMB:  I had no life before FBCMB.  No, seriously -- I was raised in this church from the time I was an infant.

You knew there was no turning back when:  God rescued me from myself and from a miserable life of defeat and shame to a joyful life of love for God.  That love compels me to tell others about His power to transform lives.

You come to work everyday because:  I believe in the local church.  I believe in THIS local church.  I am fully convinced that the local church is the hope of the world, and that God designed the local church to be a display of His glory.  I want FBCMB to reflect the church of the New Testament and truly function as the Body of Christ in our community.

You're energized by:  Chocolate.  I'm also energized by learning and studying the Word of God.  I'm a Bible and theology junkie.  I also like to sing and play the piano.

You cringe when you see Christians:  When people try to live the Christian life according to some man-made, religious formula, expecting everything to be easy and safe, it makes me want to stick a pencil in my eyeball.  The Christian life is about a relationship that brings joy to our hearts and glory to our God.

Your favorite quote:  (It's a long one!)
"The enjoyment of [God] is the only happiness with which our souls can be satisfied.  To go to heaven, fully to enjoy God, is infinitely better than the most pleasant accommodations here.  Fathers and mothers, husbands, wives, or children, or the company of earthly friends, are but shadows; but God is the substance.  These are but scattered beams, but God is the sun.  These are but streams.  But God is the ocean." -- Jonathan Edwards
